Kaweah Delta

Hospital Serving Tulare County in California

Kaweah Delta Health Care District is the largest hospital in Tulare County and the only hospital in Visalia. We have a heavy responsibility to provide the people of our community with efficient, quality healthcare in their local area. We are the only hospital in two counties offering comprehensive cardiac care, open heart surgery, minimally invasive operations, and more.

We are an officially certified Level III trauma hospital, and the only trauma center between Fresno and Bakersfield. This means our facility is staffed 24/7 with surgeons and anesthesiologists ready to perform emergency procedures. Our team is capable of providing treatment for adults and children, and our pediatric program is well-respected throughout the state.

In His Own Words

“We got our life back,” said Georg. “It was just a miracle how everything worked out.”

Georg never thought moving a "little rock" would change his life in such big ways. Suddenly, the 53-year-old had back pain so bad he could barely walk. But thanks to the healing work of Neurosurgeon Dr. Charles Liu, Georg got his life back and is back to doing the things he loves.

Our Emergency Department Registration & Waiting Area has Moved

As of Thursday, March 14, we have closed the previous Emergency Department waiting area and temporarily relocated it inside the Mineral King Lobby. This area has expanded seating and an intake area where we will register patients and take vitals for the next four to five months as we proceed with construction. For more information, visit www.kaweahdelta.org/ED.

Carolyn Hill

Carolyn had just sat down for Sunday brunch with her husband, Ron, when it turned into a meal they’ll never forget. When Carolyn tried ordering, her speech was so slurred the waitress couldn’t understand a word she was saying. Suddenly, Carolyn’s face began to droop and Ron knew something was terribly wrong. Their server immediately called 9-1-1 and within 10 minutes, Carolyn was in an ambulance on the way to the hospital. She was having a stroke.

After an emergency CT scan showed a major blockage cutting off blood flow in Carolyn’s brain, she was given the “clot-busting” drug, Tissue plasminogen activator (tPA). For optimal results, tPA should be given within three hours of the time stroke symptoms start. Carolyn received it within 45 minutes, and just 10 minutes later, she regained feeling on the left side of her body. The clot-buster worked just as it should. She would be airlifted to Bakersfield a short time later to undergo a procedure to completely remove the clot. By 9:00 p.m. that night, Carolyn was back to feeling normal.

How you spend the first 60 minutes after a stroke could determine how you spend the rest of your life. Thanks to fast action by her husband, brunch server, and the Kaweah Delta Emergency Department, Carolyn’s brain was spared from major damage. Minutes matter and Carolyn is alive and well today to prove it.
