“Elsa may have saved my life. I came in through the ER and was admitted
for pneumonia. After three days of antibiotics, my breathing and oxygen
saturation wasn’t much better. There was some discussion about sending
me home with oxygen.”
“Elsa was not satisfied with not knowing why I still needed oxygen
because I had no prior history of needing it. Elsa persisted on my behalf
for a CT scan. The CT scan was done around 7:00 p.m. that night which
revealed a large blood clot on the two main arteries of my lungs. Without
Elsa’s persistence and advocacy, I quite likely would have gone
home and died. Elsa deserves much more than a DAISY Award. She will forever
be part of my miracle story. “
To pay tribute to Elsa for demonstrating exceptional talents, dedication
and service to patients, she received a one-of-kind sculpture and banner
to be displayed in her department for her achievement.
