Kaweah Delta set to host Oct. 17 joint replacement seminar in Visalia
VISALIA, CA – A hip and knee joint replacement seminar will be led
by experienced and knowledgeable Orthopedic Surgeons affiliated with Kaweah
Delta on Thursday, Oct. 17, in Visalia, including the area’s first
orthopedic surgeon fellowship trained in adult reconstruction, which includes
total joint replacement.
This free seminar aims to help people whose hip and knee pain has kept
them from everyday activities. It will take place at the Sequoia Regional
Cancer Center, 4945 W. Cypress Ave., Visalia, with check-in at 6 p.m.
followed by the seminar from 6:30-8 p.m. A light dinner will be served,
but seating is limited and pre-registration is required by calling (559) 624-3804.
Dr. Jun Kim, D.O., M.M.S., who recently moved to Visalia, will be among
the seminar speakers. Kaweah Delta partners with the following orthopedic
surgeons to provide hip and knee replacements in Visalia: Seth Criner,
D.O.; Ian Duncan, M.D.; Frank Feng, D.O.; Jun Kim, D.O., M.M.S.; Bruce
Le, D.O.; Jason Mihalcin, D.O.; Burton Redd, M.D; and David Surdyka, M.D.
“Having an orthopedic surgeon who is fellowship trained in total
joint replacement is a great opportunity for this community,” said
Dr. Kim, who can provide specialty orthopedic services, along with revision
surgery for joint replacements. “This benefits the community because
if a person’s surgery can be done locally, they do not have to travel
far for post-operative care and wound checks are much easier. If they
do have a complication or an issue, it can be hard for them to have to
go 40-50 miles to have an orthopedic surgeon address it.”
Dr. Kim completed a total joint fellowship in adult reconstruction at Wake
Forest Baptist Health in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Prior to that,
Dr. Kim completed medical school at Western University of Health Sciences
in Pomona, Calif. and completed an orthopedic surgery residency at Good
Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis, Oregon. He has a Bachelor
of Science in Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology from UCLA and
a Master of Science in Medical Science from Drexel University in Philadelphia,
Pa. He is also a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons,
the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and the American Osteopathic
Academy of Orthopedics. Dr. Kim, along with other local orthopedic surgeons
who practice at Kaweah Delta will answer questions, discuss new advancements
in technology and the benefits of minimally-invasive techniques in total
joint replacement surgery.
Each year, Kaweah Delta Medical Center partners with specialty-trained,
board-certified Orthopedic Surgeons who specialize in state-of-the-art
techniques for joint replacement surgeries. Local Orthopedic Surgeons
perform more than 2,000 orthopedic surgery procedures at Kaweah Delta,
600 of which are joint replacements, making it possible for patients to
receive award-winning orthopedic care and stay close to home.
