Kaweah Delta Begins Series Of Free Living Well With Diabetes Support Groups
VISALIA, CA – Tulare County continues to exceed state averages for
rates of diabetes, according to the Tulare County Health and Human Services
Agency. Adults diagnosed with diabetes, one of several diseases linked
to obesity, has climbed since 2007, reaching 9.4 percent in 2009, compared
to 7 percent statewide in 2009. Tulare County has the 7th highest diagnosed
diabetes rates out of 59 counties.
In an effort to increase awareness and education in the community, Kaweah
Delta Health Care District will begins its ongoing series of free monthly
diabetes support groups beginning in March through November in Visalia,
Woodlake and Orosi. The groups offer an opportunity to learn how to manage
diabetes from experts in the field. Participants also learn about local
resources and find support and encouragement in a safe and welcoming environment.
The free diabetes support groups will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00
p.m. on the following dates and at the following locations:
Visalia -First Thursday of the month at the Kaweah Delta Chronic Disease
Management Center, 325 Willis St., Visalia
Woodlake -Third Thursday of the month at Woodlake Manor Apartments, 200E.
Siera Ave. Woodlake
Orosi -Last Thursday of the month at Sand Creek Apartments, 41020 Rd. 124, Orosi
English and Spanish speakers are welcome at all support groups. The diabetes
support groups are provided by Kaweah Delta’s Community Outreach
Department in collaboration with Kaweah Delta Health Clinics, Kaweah Delta
Specialty Clinics, Kaweah Delta Chronic Disease Management Center and
Self-Help Enterprises.
