The Joint Commission gives Kaweah Health glowing marks
As a result of years of hard work by the Medical Staff, Hospital Staff, Board of Directors, and Administration, Kaweah Health has once again achieved the distinction of full Joint Commission accreditation. The week-long accreditation survey by 11 physicians, nurses, administrators, and engineers concluded in September, with more commendations about excellent care and service than the need for improvement. The Joint Commission is the nation’s leading organization for accreditation and certification of healthcare organizations.
Residency Program improves access to physicians
People living in Tulare County now have greater access to physicians thanks to Kaweah Health’s five residency programs accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. Half of the first 12 residents in the district’s first two programs – family and emergency medicine – are now practicing medicine in our community. Next year, the program will be home to 88 physicians and when fully established, 117 additional physicians will be in the hospital thanks to these residency programs.
Audit confirms district’s strong financial performance
Moss Adams, LLP, an independent accounting firm, recently completed its annual audit of Kaweah Health’s financial statements for the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2016. The findings and results of this audit were presented to the District’s Board of Directors at its regular October meeting.
Moss Adams told the Board that despite the challenges of declining reimbursement and rising costs faced by California hospitals, Kaweah Health has achieved a solid operating margin of 4 percent for the year and continues to exhibit strong liquidity and effective management of debt, both important factors in maintaining Kaweah Health’s “A3, Stable” credit rating from Moody’s.
