WHAT IS LYMPHEDEMA?
Lymphedema is an abnormal accumulation of protein rich fluid that often leads to swelling of a body part.
THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF LYMPHEDEMA:
Primary lymphedema can occur at birth or early in life with no injury to the lymphatic system.
Secondary lymphedema can be caused by an injury to the lymphatic system or surgical intervention such as lymphnode removal in cancer diagnoses, for example post breast cancer surgery. Swelling may occur in the lower extremities, arms, neck, etc.
