ADVANCE for Nurses newsmagazine announced its list of select “top hospitals” in the magazine’s second annual Readers’ Choice survey for all regions. Kaweah Delta Health Care District has ranked among the top 5 hospitals in California announced Vice President, Chief Nursing Officer Linda Pruett.
Hundreds of nurses responded from the heart, ranking their hospitals. ADVANCE provided a list of 465 hospitals across California and Nevada and invited readers to rank their hospitals by responding on a scale of 1-5 to 50 statements in 5 categories: Quality, Organizational Culture, Communication, Professional Development, and Retention Efforts. “Only five hospitals statewide made the list by scoring at the top of all five categories.”
The five hospitals topping the list for California range from a University of California facility to a gem tucked away in the Central Valley, Kaweah Delta, to one of the nation’s premier children’s hospitals. “What they have in common is a focus on empowering, engaging and supporting nurses while continuing to raise the bar on quality patient care delivery. They all share many similarities, not the least of which is a passion for their patients, a dedication to the highest level of nursing excellence and a commitment to those nurses who bring the mission to life,” states Candy Goulette of ADVANCE for Nurses magazine.
The underlying theme echoed by nurses at his year’s winning hospitals was excellence: in patient care, in professional role development and in leadership. Nurses at these facilities see themselves as practice leaders, from the bedside up. That’s what Linda Pruett, MSN, RN, CNAA, BC, chief nursing officer and vice president of patient care services for Kaweah Delta Health Care District, sees at Kaweah Delta. Pruett and Mary Laufer, Kaweah’s Magnet program director, emphasized that clinical excellence is the goal for patient care and outcomes. “We focus on shared decision-making and a culture of education,” Pruett said.
LaNora Cook, MSN, RN, FNP, CDE, advanced practice nurse for diabetes services and evidence-based practice projects, has been at Kaweah Delta for 20 years. “I voted for Kaweah Delta because I wanted everyone to know what a gem we have here.” She continues. “It’s never boring. We all hold very high expectations for each other, and that translates to a great place to work and to care for patients.”
