Kaweah Delta Health Care District and Sequoia Regional Cancer Center are partnering with The American Cancer Society to host the Fight Back Express in Visalia on Thursday, September 4, at 3 pm. The bus will be parked at the Sequoia Regional Cancer Center on Cypress just east of Akers by The Lifestyle Center. The community is encouraged to come out and put their signature on the bus to demonstrate their commitment to defeating cancer. The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) is sponsoring the nationwide bus tour (The Fight Back Express: FBE) with the goal of building a grassroots movement united in its mission to make cancer a top national priority. The message: “If one person can battle cancer, a nation can rise up and defeat it”. Event: Fight Back Express and Stand Up 2 Cancer Where: Sequoia Regional Cancer Center 4945 W. Activities: Signing of the bus, short commentaries from an oncologist, a cancer survivor and an ACS Ambassador, MUSIC, refreshments and activities.
Part of this one hour celebration will include activities to support the Stand Up 2 Cancer nation wide event taking place on Friday September 5, nationwide. Kaweah Delta and the ACS have invited all the high schools and middle school students to come out and sign the bus to support “Stand Up to Cancer”. Visalia is kicking off this national event as they greet the Fight Back Express. Stand Up To Cancer ("SU2C"), is a charitable program of the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) established by media, entertainment and philanthropic leaders who have been affected by cancer. SU2C aims to raise significant funds for translational cancer research through online and televised efforts. Central to the program is a telethon scheduled to air on all three major broadcast networks on September 5, 2008.
The SU2C leadership team includes news anchor Katie Couric, the Entertainment Industry Foundation, represented by Board of Directors Chairperson Sherry Lansingand CEO Lisa Paulsen, Laura Ziskin, the Noreen Fraser Foundation and its executives Noreen Fraser, Woody Fraser, Rusty Robertson and Sue Schwartz, and nonprofit executive Ellen Ziffren is a supporting partner in Standup 2 Cancer, though the FBE is a separate event and a national grassroots effort to fight back against cancer.
