Cardiac Surgeon Dr. Frederick Mayer will be performing the 5,000th open-heart surgery procedure at Kaweah Delta Medical Center on May 16th, 2008.
Kaweah Delta, in collaboration with the local physician community, first responded to the demand for local cardiac surgery by developing an open-heart surgery program in 1995. The Starr-Wood Cardiac Group, the most experienced cardiovascular group on the West Coast at starting cardiac surgery programs, joined Kaweah Delta and performed its first open heart surgery in January 1996. Today, more than 450 open-heart surgeries are performed at the Kaweah Delta Regional Heart Center each year. In 1995 Kaweah Delta partnered with the world renowned Starr-Wood Cardiac Group, to offer the Central Valley the very best in cardiac services. They have been performing open-heart surgeries for the past twelve years. Just three years after beginning the program, Kaweah Delta was recognized as a 100 Top Cardiovascular Hospital in the nation. Now 12 years later Dr. Mayer will be performing the 5,000 procedure at Kaweah Delta Medical Center.
