Instead of buying each other gifts for Christmas, the staff on the Intensive Care Unit at Kaweah Delta Hospital decided to give gifts to the children of the CASA organization.
"These kids have nothing to call their own. The kids that we have gathered gifts for are the most underprivileged kids in Tulare County and anything from pajamas to art supplies is a major event in their lives," explains Marian Roster, RN and a CASA volunteer.
Gifts were bought for 58 children and will be donated by the staff of the ICU, physicians, respiratory therapists, secretary's and families of some of the ICU patients that wanted to get involved after seeing what the staff was up to.
Other units throughout the hospital are doing similar things to celebrate the season. The entire Surgical Services team has been choosing a family that needs some assistance due to unforeseen illness or hardship for the past three years. This year, they have adopted two families and will be providing clothes, food and toys for Christmas, as well as taking on the utility bills, that these families are unable to pay.
San Juan Health Center, located in Exeter, has been collecting blankets and coats for the past two weeks. Donations made by employees throughout the District will be given out to families in the Exeter area.
This is just a small sampling of the deep commitment of the Kaweah Delta staff in serving our community.
