Acequia Wing Mother-Baby Unit will be opening the doors on May 27

Posted Date: 5/29/2009

The first babies and their families have arrived on the Mother Baby Wing just after 8 am this morning.

Kaweah Delta Medical Center-Acequia Wing Mother-Baby Unit has passed state inspection and will be opening the doors to its brand new Rose Ruiz Mother-Baby Unit on Wednesday, May 27. Headed by Regina Sawyer, Director of Maternal Child Health, the 42-bed unit offers spacious rooms, increased privacy, and comfortable accommodations for new families.

Every room is a private room and they are 50 percent larger than the old pie-shaped rooms in the Mineral King Wing and every room has a view. There is also a private patio in the center of the unit, providing moms and dads a quiet place to gather with family. Each room will be enhanced with flat screen televisions, and wireless internet connection. The rooms have new beds for mom and the dads also have comfortable accommodations. Each room is also complete with new bassinettes for the babies. Nurses will have high-tech digitized capabilities with immediate access to charts and records in each patient room, allowing the nurse to better care for the patients at the bedside.

Kaweah Delta delivers almost 4,000 babies a year, averaging 350 babies per month. The growth of this new wing will more than double the occupancy load that a staff of more than 300+ in the Maternal Child Health Department has previously had. Up until now Kaweah Delta has worked with 23 Labor and Delivery Rooms, 31 post-pardum rooms for mom and the baby and a thriving Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Kaweah Delta has looked forward to the much needed expansion of this unit and is pleased to announce the opening of the new Acequia Wing Mother-Baby Unit….Now Open and delivering daily!
