On Friday, May 1 the new Kaweah Delta Medical Center will hold its grand opening event for the Acequia Wing
Three years in the building, the six story Kaweah Delta Medical Center Acequia Wing is ready for its public debut. On Friday, May 1 at 4:30 PM the community is invited to the Grand Opening Celebration.
It was ten years ago when the Board of Directors of Kaweah Delta wrestled with how to meet the community’s growing health care needs and to determine where the hospital was best located when expanding. The Board and the City agreed that staying downtown was the right place to be.
Kaweah Delta has made its home in downtown Visalia since 1921 when doctors began converting houses in the area. Now, with its largest expansion to date, the hospital has put down even deeper roots.
The community and dignitaries all will be able to walk the first four floors of the six story new Acequia Wing. The first floor housesthe newly expanded Emergency department that opened in late March. As families enter the lobby they will be greeted by the new reception area, the Hospital Guild Gift Shop and a Café. Shelled space on the first floor will be made ready at a later date to house the Non-invasive Cardiology unit, MRI/CT imaging and a resource library.
A large part of the new Acequia Wing is dedicated to cardiovascular health and is home to a new Telemetry Department. On the second floor, the guest will visit the new endovascular surgery suite, and electrophysiology and cardiology lab, three cardiac surgical suites and two new catherization labs. There is a long list of new technology and equipment going into the new areas, from state-of-the-art video equipment to help surgeons see more clearly during surgery, to a new Zeego C-Arm robotic imaging system. For years, Dr. Mayer and his wife and the Heart Spectacular Foundation have been fundraising to support new technology for cardiac procedures.
On the third floor, is the new mother/baby unit. The 38 rooms in this unit will offer more space, more privacy, and comfortable accommodations for dad. Families will be able to stroll out to a very large patio area to relax. They can sit and visit at the tables while being surrounded by orange trees. The patio area was made possible by the generous donation from Paramount Farms.
On the fourth floor, is the state-of-the-art medical telemetry unit. The fifth and sixth floors currently remain unfinished, providing flexibility for additional expansion in the near future. Part of the shelled space has also been earmarked for a expanded Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. There is room for 24 additional beds on each of the fifth and sixth floors.
The services that are moving into the Acequia Wing will create additional space in the Mineral King Wing. These areas will be renovated and prepared for additional ICU rooms, Da Vinci robotic surgical equipment and many other services.
The community is invited to come and see their new Acequia Wing expansion first hand. Public remarks will take place at 5 pm followed by tours. Refreshments will be served.
