Patient and Visitor Guide

Purpose:

Visitor access is regulated because the desires of the public to visit friends and family must be balanced with the needs of all patients for privacy and rest, the environment needed by the medical staff and hospital staff to carry out their work, and everyone’s need for safety and security. In extenuating circumstances, exceptions to this policy may be considered by the Nurse Manager or Supervisor

Policy:

  1. General visiting hours are 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

    1. Patients can request “no visitors” at any time.  A sign will be posted on the door of the patient’s room to that effect.

    2. No more than two (2) visitors can be in a patient’s room at one time.  Other visitors must go to public lobby areas, by the visitor elevator, in the main lobby, or in the cafeteria to wait.  An adult must accompany children at all times.

    3. Nursing staff may limit the number of visitors to fewer than two (2) if it is in any patient’s best interest, or at the request of patient or physician.

    4. Staff may request that visitors leave the room while they provide patient care, or if visitors are interfering with the treatment or rest of any patient.

    5. An interpreter may stay at the bedside of patients, if necessary.

  2. Children under 12 years of age may not visit in the patient care areas unless an exception is granted from the nurse in charge.  When a visit occurs, the guardian is responsible to ensure appropriate behavior for the comfort and safety of others in the hospital.  In the interest of other patients, the guardian will be asked to leave with any child that is acting out or unable to remain quiet.

  3. These regulations apply to all acute and med-surg areas of Kaweah Delta Health Care District.  Maternal/Child, Skilled Nursing, Mental Health (MH.154) and Rehabilitation (PR.04)  have policies, which are specific to those respective clinical areas.

  4. The patient may have one person, an adult family member or friend, in attendance at all time throughout their hospital stay. If the patient desires, this can be different people at different times.

    1. If a sleeping chair is available, it will be provided for the overnight visitor.

    2. The visitor may be asked to wait outside the room while hospital staff provides direct care.

  5. Cell phones are prohibited in posted areas.  Cell phones and pagers are to be on vibrate mode.  Camera phones are prohibited in all patient care areas.

  6. Eating is allowed only in the public dining areas and, with the patient’s permission, in the patient’s room.

  7. Any visitor exhibiting signs of a contagious disease will be asked to leave, for the protection of patients and staff.
Cafeteria, lobby, patios and waiting rooms are closed to the public after 8:00 PM.

Waiting for Patients in Surgery

Our surgery waiting area for inpatients is located across from the main elevators. Volunteers are there to assist your family and friends with information such as when you have completed surgery and when you have returned to your room.

Please instruct your family and friends to check in with the volunteer on duty so they will receive information. A private conference room is also available so your family can consult with your physician. The volunteer will assist with arrangements for this room. If your family or friends have any questions, the volunteer will assist them.
