Kaweah Delta Health Care District in Visalia, CA is a busy, 400+ bed, Level III Trauma Center, community hospital academically affiliated with the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine. In addition, we have over 300 physicians on staff and provide over 27, 000 in-patient admissions. We are a public, district hospital in a federally designated undeserved area that provides care to a mix of urban, rural and undocumented farm workers with both acute chronic medical needs. We provide patient-centered evidence based care.
Kaweah Delta Health Care District has ACGME accredited residency programs in Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Psychiatry, General Surgery and Transitional Year. We have a very enthusiastic faculty, dedicated hospital staff and a welcoming community, which are making these successful residencies. We provide an outstanding educational experience to medical students performing clerkships in both core and elective rotations such as anesthesiology, cardiology, intensive care, vascular surgery, etc.
Medical students who elect to perform their clerkships here will benefit from the diverse patient population from our large catchment area. Our faculty is motivated to teach and our residency programs are still new, which allows for more one on one time with attending physicians, as compared to traditional academic centers. This translates to more practical, usable knowledge acquired at the bedside to prepare you for your residency. Our medical center has been recently renovated and prides itself on an outstanding electronic medical record, an advanced Simulation lab, and the opportunity for hands-on, attending led ultrasound training.
Visalia is located in the heart of California’s central valley, approximately midway between Fresno and Bakersfield. We are a safe, family friendly community with a low cost of living. In addition to the many local parks and activities, we are also within easy driving distance for trips to Yosemite National Park, the Central California Coast, Mineral King National Park and the Sequoia National Forest.
Please review the available clerkships. We look forward to giving you a great learning experience!
