Clerkship Welcome

Kaweah Delta Health Care District in Visalia, CA is a busy, 400+ bed, Level III (soon to be Level II) Trauma Center, community hospital academically affiliated with the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine.  We have over 450 physicians on staff.   We are a public hospital in a federally designated undeserved area that provides patient-centered care to a widely divergent mix of patients with both acute and chronic medical needs.

We have strong residency programs in Emergency Medicine, General Surgery, Psychiatry, Family Medicine and a one year Transitional Year program. Their success is due to an enthusiastic dedicated faculty that evolves their programs based on resident input. We also provide an outstanding educational experience to medical students performing clerkship's in both core and elective rotations in a wide variety of medical and surgical specialties.

Medical students who elect to perform their clerkship's here will benefit from the diverse patient population. Our faculty is motivated to teach and there is more one on one time with attending physicians, as compared to traditional academic centers.  This translates to more practical, usable knowledge acquired at the bedside to prepare you for your residency.  Our medical center has been recently renovated and prides itself on an outstanding learning center, new medical library, an advanced Simulation lab, and the opportunity for hands-on, attending led ultrasound training.

Visalia is located in the heart of California’s central valley, approximately midway between Fresno and Bakersfield.  We are a safe, family friendly community with a low cost of living.  In addition to the many local parks and activities, we are also within easy driving distance for trips to Yosemite National Park, the Central California Coast, Mineral King National Park and the Sequoia National Forest.

We look forward to giving you a great learning experience!
