Kaweah Delta Medical Center in Visalia, California is a busy 400+ bed, Level III (soon to be Level II) Trauma Center and Community Hospital that is academically affiliated with the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine. We have over 450 physicians on staff and are a public hospital in a federally designated underserved area that provides patient –centered care to a widely divergent mix of patients.
We currently have strong Residency Programs in Emergency Medicine, General Surgery, Psychiatry, Family Medicine and a one-year Transitional Year Program. We are currently awaiting an accreditation decision for our up and coming Anesthesiology Residency Program, and if granted, will start in July of 2017. The success of our Residency Programs is due to the dedicated faculty that work to improve their programs continuously, and often based on resident input. These programs help us to provide an outstanding educational experience to medical students performing clerkships in both core and elective rotations in a wide variety of medical and surgical specialties.
Medical students who elect to perform their clerkships here will benefit from all we have to offer, including:
- Diverse patient population.
- Motivated Faculty.
- We are a small academic center - can lead to more one-on-one time with Attending Physician.
- Newly renovated facility with additions of Medical Library and Simulation Lab.
Visalia is located in the heart of California’s Central Valley, set midway between Fresno and Bakersfield. We are a safe community with a low cost of living, many outdoor activities, and a short driving distance to Yosemite National Park, the Central California Coast, Mineral King National Park and the Sequoia National Forest.
We hope you will consider us for your future clerkships and we look forward to providing you with a great learning experience!
