Following a site visit earlier this year, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) awarded Kaweah Delta Health Care District accreditation to offer an Anesthesiology Residency Program. Kaweah Delta is now accepting applications from medical school graduates wishing to begin the program on June 19, 2017.
What will it be like to train at Kaweah Delta? We are a large institution with 8 campuses, 581 patient beds, more than 300 physicians, and an anesthesia staff of more than 25 people. The clinical facilities employed for training are first rate. Our regional medical center is a state-of-the-art, facility. It contains a newly remodeled and expanded surgical suite with 18 operating rooms where we provide nearly 18,000 anesthetics per year, plus an obstetrical suite with 5000 deliveries. The entire Kaweah Delta organization including the operating rooms are transitioning to a state-of-the-art computerized anesthesia information and record keeping system provided by Cerner Millennium, which is expected to be in place by in the Fall of 2017.
We are offering a four-year ACGME accredited residency with four residents per year which will include a Clinical Base Year. The Anesthesiology Residency Program is the only program in the Central Valley and is one of very few Anesthesiology Residency programs between the San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles.
Program Director, Dr. Michael Pesce states “The Kaweah Delta Faculty is excited about our new anesthesiology residency training program. This addition to our teaching mission will benefit our current patients, as well as future generations of Central Valley residents, who can look forward to advanced anesthesia care available locally. We are looking for ambitious, dedicated, and curious new physicians from across the country that want to be part of something unique in anesthesia post-graduate education: a small town training program, with big city-like exposure; where our residents will be welcomed as colleagues from day one; where each new resident will have a faculty mentor for all four years of training; where residents can expect a training program with exceptional facilities, equipment, teaching, and experience; and all with great California sunshine.”
