Congress recently passed a new law which allows you to make special contributions to charity from your IRA between now and December 31, 2009.
You can use the provisions of this law to make a gift to the Kaweah Delta Hospital Foundation of up to $100,000 from your IRA if you are at least 70 and one-half years of age. Your gift will count toward your required minimum distribution from your IRA. (You cannot remove the funds from your IRA and then donate them to the Foundation. The funds must be transferred directly from your IRA to the Foundation.)
This gift will not create a tax deduction for you. However, the donation from your IRA to the Foundation avoids taxes that you would normally incur when you withdraw funds from your IRA.
