Meet Our People

Shelley, Registered Nurse, Nursing Float Pool

"I honestly and truly think it goes beyond team, we're family. Being in the float pool, I've been able to go throughout the entire hospital, and I can honestly say that every single solitary one of our floors is a stitch into what makes us into a family. It's team work. And, you don't feel like you're an outsider when you go to a floor, even though you may not necessarily know all the nurses, they make it a point to make you feel welcome.

Every aspect of my job, I love. I've always seen myself in a caretaker role, and I love it. It's not really a job. I feel blessed to be able to get up every morning and do what I do."

Byron, Aide, Patient Transfer Services

"My greatest passion is to fill the need of a patient, and then go beyond that. Even if it's just getting them an extra blanket. It makes them feel better, and helps the staff too. I'm able to make a difference every day."

Di, RNC, NICU Clinical Educator

"As a NICU Clinical Educator, I have the most rewarding profession. We care for extremely sick babies and assist their families to work through the stress of having a critically-ill child. We form strong bonds with our families, some that last a lifetime. Although I am not at the bedside, I am extremely content by working with the staff to provide the best evidence-based care to our tiny patients. Additionally, I am so grateful to work in a community that supports our NICU and our babies with fundraisers and reunions. I truly believe there is no greater blessing than to watch our families leaving the hospital together healthy and happy."

Chloe, Registered Nurse, Nursing Float Pool

"I love my job, and I love my colleagues, which makes me want to come to work everyday.

When I first moved here, I remember writing to my friends on Facebook 'The people here are genuinely caring and kind. It's a friendly, part-of-a-family feel.' It's been so warm and welcoming here.

There's something satisfying about caring for a patient, and being a part of someone's life when they're sick, and making them better all the while empowering them with the educational tools to improve their lives."

Loretta, Environmental Services Aide, Main Campus

"I enjoy what I do. I like providing a service, and I try and do the best I can. I enjoy the people, too. The hospital is like a beehive for so many people when they come in, and I can help them. I can escort them, and make them feel comfortable. My job makes me feel good about myself."

Wendy, RNFA, CNOR, Surgical Service Specialist - Urology
Robotics Program Coordinator

"The most rewarding aspect of my job is that there is no single most rewarding aspect of my job. It is the diversity of challenges and opportunities that allow for professional growth that have led to so many exceptional moments.

But without question, after 28 years, my answer remains - the most rewarding MOMENT in my job is the silent squeeze or rub of a patient's hand in a busy room as they are about to undergo anesthesia. The moment they know you are there for them."

Rocky, Physical Therapist, Outpatient Rehab

"I like to get people to move better, to help them do it without medication, to teach patients to know more about their bodies. I love the people that work here. We all have the same passion to get people better and back to their lives."

Michelle, Registered Nurse, Maternal Child Health Flex Team

"Knowing I have a job that I love is an instant motivator, but you're also helping people. You're keeping them safe, and sending them on their way to be stronger and better, and making the patient feel empowered to make decisions. And you're a team, as well. Your coworkers are your family away from your family. It's not just you all alone, you're a team."

Dan, MSN, FNP-C, Director Critical Care and Emergency Services

"Since joining this prestigious profession, I have been afforded the honor and privilege of interacting with patients and families at some of their most tragic, life-changing times. The most rewarding part of my patient care career is when I can make a difference in the life of a patient or their family. When I can take a child who is crying, not understanding what is happening, and develop a trusting relationship to alleviate their fear and change a negative interaction into a positive experience for the patient and family - I am rewarded.

As a leader in a Magnet organization, my most rewarding times come when I affect positive change. For example, when I see a fellow nurse struggling with workload and feeling burnt out, I take the time to listen. I am rewarded when I can work with them to reconnect to the true passion and reason they chose to join the nursing profession. I am also rewarded when I mentor a nursing assistant to achieve their goal of becoming a registered nurse and help them develop and coach them through a career change.

The most rewarding part of my job is that I have been given the opportunity to facilitate positive changes in the lives of patients, families, staff and in my profession."

Holly, Registered Nurse, Broderick Pavilion

"My unit is fantastic and caring and sweet and great. Any time I needed help, my team stepped in and helped me get through being a new nurse. I just think it's a great profession."

Judy, MS, RN, NE-BC, Director Medical Surgical Services

"I trained to be a nurse because I watched my parents minister to the sick in the poorest towns of my country. Resources were bare and work appeared very difficult, yet they looked inspired and content. My personal goal became the desire to follow their example and to my pleasant surprise the rewards are priceless.

Reward for me is about opportunity. To be involved in the journey of a novice nurse toward expert practice is a privilege and a rare opportunity in the shaping of someone's career. Most impressive is when positive patient outcomes are recognized and the nurse is instrumental in the process. The nurse turns to you and says, 'Thank you for your mentorship.' I know that my work is done only to continue for the next one in line."

Sarah, Registered Nurse, Surgery

"No matter how it comes, learning something new each day, and applying that knowledge to better serve those patients affected is the most rewarding part of my job."

Melissa, Registered Nurse, Obstetrics

"The most rewarding part of my job is being able to teach a new mommy how to take care of herself and her new baby. I love seeing the look on a new mommy's face when you are caring for them and able to help them achieve their biggest fear of succeeding being a new mother. Many women come to my unit thinking 'I don't know how' or 'I can't do this.' It is up to me to assist them in learning and providing the necessary resources for them to engage in taking care of themselves and baby. It is most rewarding when you have created a bond with a new family and you see them out in public and are recognized for the excellent service you provided to them and their family."
