Kaweah Delta partners with Donor Network West to register organ donors

April is Donate Life Month

VISALIA – Kaweah Delta Health Care District is partnering with Donor Network West to increase the number of registered organ and tissue donors in Tulare County

During the month of April, Donor Awareness Month, there will be three events in Tulare County to provide information to people on how to become donors. Additionally, Kaweah Delta will provide education on the importance of having an advance directive. An advance directive is a document with special instructions, prepared in advance, that lets a person have a say about medical treatment in the event they get very sick and are unable to communicate. The following events will take place in April:

April 6: 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., The Lifestyle Center, 5105 W. Cypress Ave., Visalia

April 13: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Visalia Medical Clinic, 5400 W. Hillsdale Ave., Visalia

April 20: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Kaweah Delta Medical Center, 400 W. Mineral King Ave., Visalia

One organ donor can save the lives of up to eight people and a tissue donor can heal more than 50 others. Anyone can register as a donor at DonorNetworkWest.org or at the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Donor Network West is the organ procurement organization that saves and heals lives through organ and tissue donation in northern California and Nevada. The need is urgent: California ranks first among all states with more than 22,000 men, women and children on the organ transplant waiting list. Of those on the transplant list in California, 84% are in need of a life-saving kidney. On average, three people die waiting each day in California. Donations can help fight to give more people on the waiting list hope that they too, will get their second chance at life.

Established in 1963, Kaweah Delta Health Care District is a 581-bed district hospital. Kaweah Delta Medical Center is the only trauma center between Fresno and Bakersfield and was recently awarded four out of five stars in overall hospital quality from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and an A in hospital safety in Leapfrog’s Fall 2016 Hospital Safety Score.
