As part of Kaweah Delta Health
Care District’s nurses week celebration (May 5-9), Kaweah Delta will honor its
top nurses and its physician of the year on Wednesday, May 7, in Visalia.
The ceremony will begin at 7 p.m.
at the Visalia Fox Theatre, 308 W. Main St. Those who will be honored include:
of the Year – Ronald Marconi, M.D.
Dr. Marconi is a family practice physician at Kaweah Delta
Medical Center. He has been named Physician of the Year by staff nurses. He is
recognized for his approachability and responsiveness to patient and family needs
along with his overall commitment to quality patient care and collaboration
with the entire healthcare team. His nomination reads, “Dr. Marconi listens with real intent and makes himself available to
patients, families and staff. He is very approachable and every question is
important to him. It is very evident … that he truly cares about our patients.”
Structural Empowerment Award - Jeanette Callison, RN, BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing), CCRN
(Critical Care Registered Nurse)
award recognizes a nurse who partners with community organizations to improve
patient outcomes and the health of the community. Jeanette Callison was
nominated for her work in the
care unit. She is a rapid response nurse, who works alongside medical and nursing staff, to improve patient outcomes. She
also educates staff on current practices and serves her peers by teaching Advanced
Cardiac Life Support.
Knowledge, Innovation & Improvements Award – Erin Miller, RN, BSN, CCRN
award honors a nurse who evaluates existing practice, supports sharing new
knowledge, and introduces and supports innovations in nursing at Kaweah Delta. Erin Miller is a nurse in the cardiovascular intensive care unit and
is respected as a solid beacon of best practice and role modeling. Erin has
in solidifying the process for managing care for open-heart surgery patients
who have trouble breathing or experience cardiac arrest. She’s also trained
others in the department on the new process.
Leadership Award – Tracie Plunkett, RNC-OB (Registered
Nurse Certified in Inpatient Obstetrics), BSN
award honors a nurse in a formal leadership role who connects with staff within
the organization by developing a unit/division that brings the nursing
strategic plan and vision to life.
Tracie Plunkett is a nurse manager of Kaweah Delta’s Labor and Delivery
Department. She’s honored by staff for supporting her nurses and staff by
rolling up her sleeves to help out, for setting straightforward
expectations that are clearly communicated and for empowering staff to take
responsibility and be agents of change in the unit.
Philanthropist – Cindy Dunbar, RN, CCRN
Nurse Philanthropist Award was established by Kaweah Delta Hospital Foundation
in 2004 to recognize a member of the Kaweah Delta nursing staff who exhibits
philanthropic commitment and leadership through participation in the Kaweah
Delta Hospital Foundation’s Employee Giving Program. This year’s award goes to Cindy Dunbar, an RN
in the Patient Resource – Imaging/Radiation Oncology and Nuclear Medicine
department. She has been an employee donor to the foundation since 2000, and is
a foundation ambassador, keeping teams throughout the district updated on
giving campaigns and events. “The biggest
misconception in donating is that giving back has to be in monumental ways,
when in reality, every dollar and minute helps,” she said.
