VISALIA – Kaweah Delta Health Care District will offer attendees $15 flu shots and six free health screenings at the Community Health & Fitness Expo and 5th Annual Rehabilitation Reunion on Saturday, Oct. 5, in Visalia.
From 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., the following six free screenings will be offered at the expo, located at the Kaweah Delta Rehabilitation Hospital, 840 W. Akers St.:
Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening
The Society for Vascular Surgery recommends screening of all men aged 60 and older and women 60 and older with cardiovascular risk factors such as smoking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, emphysema or obesity. Men and women who are 50 and older with a family history of AAA, should also be screened. To register for this screening, please RSVP by calling: 625-9503.
Bone Density Screening
The National Osteoporosis Foundation’s guidelines state that women over 65, younger post menopausal women who have any of the osteoporosis risk factors, as well as those with specific fractures. However, men are also at risk for Osteoporosis as they age - especially if they have some of the Causes of Osteopenia or Osteoporosis.
Blood Pressure Screening
Check your blood pressure at least every 2 years starting at age 18. It’s important to check your blood pressure often, especially if you are over age 40.
Body Mass Index (Height/Weight) Screening
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a number calculated from a person's weight and height. BMI provides a reliable indicator of body fatness for most people and is used to screen for weight categories that may lead to health problems.
This diabetic foot screening will check for pressure spots, decreased circulation and provide attendee with education on how to keep his/her feet healthy.
Balance and Strength Test
This screening will check to see if a person has average strength and balance.
The free screenings are among the expo’s many festivities taking place from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 5. The event will begin at 8 a.m. with the Visalia Runners’ 5K Harvest Run and 1K Minds ‘N Motion Brain Injury Awareness Walk. Both events will be followed by festivities including a pancake breakfast, archery demonstrations by Paralympic Gold Medalist Jeff Fabry, community booths, free kids activities including a free teddy bear clinic for children and more at the Kaweah Delta Rehabilitation Hospital, 840 W.
