Registration open for run/walk events to kick off Oct. 5 community health and fitness expo

VISALIA – Registration is now open for the Visalia Runners Harvest Run and the Minds ‘N Motion Brain Injury Awareness Walk on Saturday, Oct. 5, in Visalia.  

Both events will kick off the Kaweah Delta Community Health & Fitness Expo and 5th Annual Rehab Reunion, set to take place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Kaweah Delta Rehabilitation Hospital, 840 W. Akers St. in Visalia. The event will feature a pancake breakfast, community booths, free screenings, a teddy bear clinic for children and archery demonstrations by gold medalist Jeff Fabry, of Hanford. Last year in London, Fabry became the first U.S. archer to win a Paralympic Games gold since 1984.  

The Harvest Run, a 5K run with chip timing, will begin at 8 a.m. and is a 10-point event in the Valley Runner of the Year Series. The Minds ‘N Motion Brain Injury Awareness Walk is a 1K Run/Walk and will begin at 8:15 a.m. The registration cost for each event is $25 when participants pre-register before midnight on Wednesday, Oct. 2. After that date, registration is $35 and only available at the event. T-shirts will be given to the first 400 people to register. Proceeds from the events will support local families in need for Christmas 2013 and the Jeff Barnes Brain Injury Foundation.
