Brain Injuries

The brain injury program is a comprehensive program which includes both inpatient and outpatient care. The focus of the program is to help the patient relearn basic skills, such as walking and talking. The goal is to improve their ability to function at home and in the community. Kaweah Delta Rehabilitation Hospital treats both non-traumatic and traumatic brain injuries.

Non-traumatic brain injury means that the brain has been damaged by an illness (brain tumor, hypoxic episode, infection, etc.)

Traumatic brain injury is usually the result of an accident (car crash, fall, assault, etc.)

The program teaches:
  • Balance and walking
  • Patients how to relearn or improve skills to perform activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, grooming, etc.)
  • Problem solving, decision-making, memory, and communication skills
