Kaweah Delta Hospital District was formed in March of 1961
by a vote of the community. After the establishment of the District's physical
boundaries and years of planning, operation of Kaweah Delta District Hospital
commenced July 1, 1963, when the Board of Directors leased the former Visalia
Municipal Hospital, a 68-bed facility and provided basic health care needs to
the local community. This building, constructed in 1936, was in use until a new
hospital was ready on June 23, 1969, at 400 W. Mineral King Ave. Kaweah Delta
Medical Center is still in operation at this site.
Kaweah Delta kicked off its 50-year celebration by providing
the first girl and boy born on New Year’s Day (Onyx Blake Fox and Cristian
Espinoza, respectively) with clothes and blankets embroidered with 50-year
logos on them. Celebrations will continue throughout the year.
Established in 1963, Kaweah
Delta Health Care District celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2013.
Kaweah Delta is a 581-bed district and is the only level III trauma center
serving Tulare and Kings counties. The district offers a comprehensive scope of
services including everything from a well-respected
pediatric hospitalist program to nationally-recognized orthopedic and cancer
programs. For more information, visit www.kaweahdelta.org or follow Kaweah Delta on Twitter and Facebook.
